Swim Across America - Atlanta Open Water Swim
Swim Across America (SAA) was the beneficiary of the generosity shown by the Parrot Heads that attended the Atlanta Parrot Head 30th Anniversary and the first annual Boats, Peaches, Bars and Ballads party at Margaritaville at Lanier Islands in 2019. After a one year hiatus the SAA will be back at a new venue, the Lake Lanier Olympic Park, for their annual Atlanta Open Water Swim. They were such great partners at the party we thought it would be great to turn out and support their big event. There are three ways to support them, you can volunteer, especially if you have a boat, donate to the cause, or if you are feeling really energetic, you can register to swim!
There are two Volunteer options:
1) Water Volunteers -- Water volunteers consist of kayakers, stand-up paddleboarders and power boaters that provide crucial logistical and safety support to the event officials and for the swimmers. They will monitor the swim lane, keep an active eye on all the swimmers and communicate any swimmer issues to the event officials.
2) Land Volunteers -- For us landlubbers there are multiple areas that where they can use our assistance...registration/check in, body marking/timing chip assignment, event setup/event breakdown, swimmer check out/towel distribution, timer support, etc. They can really use our help with event set up and breakdown.

About Swim Across America
Every 15 minutes, 50 Americans are diagnosed with cancer. This is a sobering reality. But, the good news is that every year millions of Americans are beating cancer through advancements in treatments. Swim Across America, the official charity for swimmers, exists to raise money for our network of doctors and researchers who are the pioneers developing new cures and treatments to this dreaded disease. Michael Phelps and over 100 Olympians support SAA.
2019 marks the 33rd year of Swim Across America. During that time, we’ve grown from a single event in Nantucket, MA, to the 20 open water benefit swims across the country and 100 annual pool swims
Since 1987, SAA has granted over $80 million to support some of the best cancer research facilities the country has to offer.
SAA—Atlanta funds benefit the Aflac Cancer & Blood Disorders Center of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta . The leukemia research project, led by Dr. Douglas Graham and his clinical research team, supports children as well as adults by hosting Phase 1 leukemia clinical trials at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University.
