July 2010

July 1st - APHC Happy Hour at Cheeseburger in Paradise. Come join the phlock for the Happy Hour starting at 7pm. Wear your APHC nametag. If you're new to the phlock, please introduce yourself!

July 10th -
Community Service Event - MedShare. Day volunteers needed at Medshare. Medshare collects and and redistributes surplus medical supplies to those in need. Donations from doctors, hospitals and medical suppliers are collected, sorted, packed and shipped globally to developing nations in critical need. Our work will probably be to sort the medical supplies. The hospitals have big bins where they toss all the items and they need to be separated into categories like gloves, gauze, etc. It's pretty easy work and we'll have some Trop Rock tunes to keep us energized. The event runs from 1pm to 4pm at Medshare's Atlanta facilty located at 3240 Clifton Springs Road, Decatur, GA 30034. Please contact club event coordinator Marinda Rule (petrelchick@hotmail.com) with any questions.

July 17th - 18th - Community Service Event - Bikers Battling Breast Cancer “Bikers For Boobs”. We will be assisting Bikers Battling Breast Cancer with the 5th Annual "Bikers For Boobs" event, a Party and "Poker Run" Breast Cancer Fundraiser. The event will take place Saturday and Sunday, July 17th and 18th, Starting at Harley Davidson of Atlanta in Lithia Springs (501 Thornton Road, Lithia Springs, GA 30122). On Saturday July 17th, there will be "Bikes, Bands and Bikinis" at Harley Davidson of Atlanta from 10:00AM-5:00PM. Sunday July 18th, there will be a Poker Run starting at 11:00AM from Harley Davidson of Atlanta and ending at the Carrolton VFW Post 7404 at 4:00PM, with stops at Fatcats in Austell, Hooters and the American Legon Post in Douglasville, and The Watering Hole in Villa Rica. There will be Live Music, Prizes, Vendors and more! Saturday volunteers are needed
at Harley Davidson of Atlanta for 3 shifts (9-1, 1-4, and 4-7). On Sunday we need volunteers from 9-1 at Harley Davidson, and then 9-1, 1-4 and 4-7 at the VFW Hall in Carrolton. Also, the first 75 volunteers will receive a "Bikers For Boobs" Volunteer T-Shirt (they must agree to wear it if they accept one). If you are volunteering and prefer not to wear an event shirt during the event, and anyone past the first 75 to volunteer, event shirts may be purchased at a discount ($6-$12, depending on size and style). Please note: In compliance with health code regulations related to safe food handling the following dress code is strictly enforced:
•Hairnet (provided as needed)
•Nothing sleeveless
•No open toed shoes such as sandals or flip flops
•Long pants or Bermuda shorts (short that reach your knees)
•No dangling or beaded jewelry
•No hanging earrings, only studs

Parrot Head Night at Cinco Mexican Cantina in Alpharetta. Our very own Jeff Pike will be performing from 7pm to 9pm

Board of Directors Meeting at Joel Oates' house. All club members in good standing are welcome to attend. We'll be conducting club business, including planning upcoming community service and social events.

July 11th - APHC Quarterly Roving Happy Hour.
Our 2nd Quarter Roving Happy Hour (yeah, we're a little late) will be held at Wild Wing in Marietta from 2pm to 5pm. Wild Wing is celebrating their 14th year and is having a Low-Country Boil Birthday Bash. They will be having specials and more throughout the day. Our very own A1A is playing from 1:30-4:15. Meet you at the Tiki Bar!

July 17th - 18th - The 13th Annual Beach Bash and Volleyball Tournament for Alzheimer's in St. Augustine Beach presented by the Beaches A1A PHC. Entertainers: Capt Josh, Mark Hart, Jimmy Parrish and the Ocean Waves Band, Latitude, The John Frinzi Band. The cost is only 40.00 pp until March 31st is after that date the cost will increase. Includes Saturday's lunch,T shirt and Goodie Bag. For all the information click here.

July 17th - APHC Wine for Water Tasting at The Wine Cellars in Smyrna Market Village from 6:30 -8:30 pm. This will be a social/educational wine tasting. We will be drinking good vino and learning about a great organization called Wine to Water. Wine To Water is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit aid organization focused on providing clean water to needy people around the world. Over 1 billion people in the world today lack access to adequate water and sanitation. Save the date and join us for a really fun event. August 7th - Homemade Wine at the Dixie Tavern in Marietta. Homemade Wine features Tod Sheley, formerly of St. Somewhere. The show begins at 9:30pm.

August 8th - APHC 2nd Annual Summer Pool Party and Dive-in Theater! The event will be held at the Loch Highland clubhouse and pool at 8pm. We'll have the grill fired up so you can grill if you would like. The event is BYOF and BYOB. DJ Fred McFarlin will be spinning tropical tunes as we gather, and as the light goes down the screen goes up. We'll float in the pool and be entertained by some surfing penguins in Surf's Up. Date Change - APHC Baseball Outing
Gwinnett Braves vs. Pawtucket Red Sox 7:00 PM at Gwinnett Stadium. Tickets should be about $11.00. Email event owner Cathy Edwards (parr0thd51@aol.com) or call (404) 862-3746 if you can join us. If we have 25 participants we can get group ticket pricing, so the $11.00 price is an estimate. Once we know the exact price, you will be able to pay Cathy via PayPal or mail her a check. Charlotte Harbor PHC's "2nd Trip Around the Sun" Party to Benefit Homeless Children & Families in Charlotte Harbor. This South Florida event is $45 per person and includes performances by Sunny Jim, John Frinzi, Jack Mosley, Capt Josh, Island Bill Haughey, Dave Murphy, Eric Ellis, John Friday, Cindy Walsh, Jimi Pappas and John Patti. September 12th - Community Service Event - By popular demand, we will be returning to Noah’s Ark Animal Rehabilitation Center and Childrens Care Homes to bring donations and to spend a few hours enjoying their animal park. The event runs from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Members can bring donation items to the August happy hours as well as to the park on September 12th. Noah’s Ark is in need of a wide variety of items both large and small. Some of the items include, but are not limited to: Animal food and supplies, online cash donations, grocery store gift cards, movie and restaurant gift cards (for the teenage kids to use), sheets, pillows, sleeping bags, towels, school supplies, Copy paper and used ink cartridges. November 4th - The Atlanta PHC's Annual "Welcome to the Island" MOTM Kickoff Party and Parrothead Cruise Reunion/Preunion.
Held at The Bull on Duval and Caroline street in Key West. The celebration begins at 7pm. Jim Asbell and the Tropiholics will be providing entertainment, along with some special guests. We will also be announcing the entertainment lineup for Parrothead Cruise 2010!

December 2nd - Peter Mayer, Singer/songwriter and Coral Reefer guitarist will present his annual Stars and Promises Christmas show at the Smokerise Baptist Church at 7:00pm. The show is free. You are encouraged to get there early to ensure a good seat. Smokerise Baptist is located at 5901 Hugh Howell Rd in Stone Mountain. This is not a Trop Rock show but a must-see multi-intstrumental celebration of the holidays.

CANCELLED March 6th - Community Service Event
-The St. George Island Chili Cookoff. St,. George is on the beach just south of Tallahassee. The cookoff is a fundraiser for the local volunteer fire department, and it's a darn good excuse for spending a weekend in a beach house with friends! If you are interested in participating please please contact Ann Gotthelf (volcano1@bellsouth.net) . Ann will coordinate housing. You can earn a Community Service Point by participating, or with a $25 donation. Checks should be made payable to the Atlanta Parrot Head Club and given to Ann at Happy Hour or mailed to Ann at 2300 Peachtree Road NW, Suite B206, Atlanta, GA 30309. We are also looking for a volunteer to haul the club trailer to the cook-off this year. Our normal keeper of the trailer for SGI, Buzz Glover, can not participate this year due to work commitments. If you can help bring the trailer down please email Buzz Glover (buzzandchris@yahoo.com) to make arrangements.

UPDATED We are still offering the community service point for a $25 donation to the St George Volunteer Fire Department.

Atlanta Parrothead Stimulus Package 2010

If you haven't paid your dues this year or you know someone who wants to join the club. You can join as a single, and get into the Tailgate for free for $20. You can join as a couple for $30, and both get into the Tailgate for free. YOU MUST SIGN UP TO BE A MEMBER TO GET THIS DEAL!

Its that time of year all. The concert has been announced and that only means one thing...Tailgate. We will be in the same location as the past few years. In the gravel lot up against the wall by the entrance to the venue. We will have port a potties, live music provided my Atlanta Parrothead Club's own Mike Eagleson. We are doing a BYOB and BYOF (food) again this year. We will be supplying a grill to cook you meat. The tailgate will start at noon or when the gates open. We also have a special treat this year. We have set up a Coral Reefer Meet and Greet. The Meet and Greet will begin about 5:00 or 5:30pm. We will know which members closer to the tailgate and it is always subject to change. You will need a wristband to attend this party and wristbands are available for $10.00 We need a headcount prior so wristbands are pre pay. This party is open to Parrothead Club members and guests only. Please do not respond to this email for wristbands.

May 7th- 8th - Gwinnett Relay for Life We will be participating in the Gwinnett Relay for Life at the Gwinnett Fair Grounds on Friday, May 7, 2010. You can earn up to 2 points for this event. 1 point for signing up for our club team and coming out for at least 3 hours and 1 point for donating at least $15 to our Gwinnett Relay for Life Team Atlanta Parrot Head Club. Camping overnight is strongly encouraged to get the most out of this event, but not necessary. If you do sign up for the Team, you must stay at least 3 hours to get the community service point. June 5th -
Community Service Event
- Donors in Paradise. The APHC is teaming up with LifeSouth in Dunwoody to start their summer Blood Drive. Donate at the event, and get a community service point. Remember that 3 donations in a community service year (May 1 - April 30) will earn you a community service point even if you can't get to the event. We also need volunteers to work the event!!! A minimum commitment of 2 hours is necessary for you to earn a community service point. We will help decorate, man the food preparation and refreshment tables, entertain the troops, and just help out wherever they might need us. June 6th - Community Service Event - Boobapalooza. We will be assisting Bikers Battling Breast Cancer with the "Boobapalooza" event, a Bike Show and Breast Cancer Fundraiser. The event will take place Sunday, June 6th at Foxy's on Roswell Road (8540 Roswell Road Atlanta 30350). Boobapalooza starts at Noon, with a Bike Show starting at 2PM (Registration 12-2, Judging 2:30, Trophies awarded at 3PM), a "Leather and Lace" Fashion Show at 3PM, and bands performing from 1PM-6PM (BroadBand 1-4, Thom Shepard and Megan Linville 4-6). Some of you may know Thom Shepard from the Tropical Isle in New Orleans...
We need volunteers for 3 shifts (10AM-1PM, 1PM-4PM and 4PM-6PM). We will need help with parking, selling merchandise, selling raffle tickets and watching the silent auction table. You will receive one Community Service Point for working a shift. This event benefits Bikers Battling Breast Cancer, Pink Kick-Starter, Bikers Riding for Awareness, St Joseph's Breast Health Center and the Tanner Health System. The Atlanta Parrot Head Club is one of the sponsors of this event, so please try to come out and help!! If you would like to volunteer for a shift, please contact me directly at albiondfin@aol.com

June 13th - Scott Kirby live at Lake Lanier Sailing Club
Sunday June 13th at 4pm. Come out to the sailing club and enjoy a day of music "Chastain Style"Make sure you get there early to get a good spot. Doors open at 3pm. Bring your favorite beverage and blanket or chair and sit on the lakeside lawn area.
Tickets are $25 and all proceeds benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Light snacks will be served .Please use the linked form and Special Keepsake tickets will be sent to the address you provide. We are limited the amount of tickets sold so get yours early.

June 19th - Let’s go out to the ballgame! Atlanta Parrot Head Club is planning an outing to the Gwinnett Braves game opposing the Chiefs on "Chopper Bobblehead Giveaway" sponsored by Georgia Power. Mark your calendar and let Cathy Edwards know ASAP at parr0thd51@aol.com if you can join us. I need to lock in a number so that we are guaranteed seats.

Price is estimated at this point –around $14 but won’t have a set number until I have a better idea of how many are going! I will let everybody know when I get enough sign-ups to hit the price threshold. We can plan a tailgate party, too, if enough people commit to the game and I can plan it ahead with the Gwinnett Braves!
