This is the same bar where the Atlanta Parrot Head Club started - just a new
location! The original Checkered Parrot was on Jimmy Carter Blvd, and the parrot
heads came out for the 1st and 3rd weekends of every month to listen to the
"House Band" - a guy named Jeff Pike who played Jimmy Buffett songs!
And he was occasionally joined onstage by a young guy who was just learning
the Harmonica, by the name of Scott Nickerson! It
was a small place, and on Fridays and Saturdays you couldn't get a seat - so
as the Club formed, we decided to do happy hour on Thursday so we could get
a table. Thus came the "tradition" that has carried on until today
- the Atlanta Parrot Head Club Happy Hours are the 1st and 3rd Thursday of every
month!
